The Lion And The Christian
Warehouse Parties

Right, this might turn out to be a big rant..well it does say on the site “be as descriptive as possible” so here goes...Well this was a good party in Whalley Range,I think the band must have played in the living room and there was music and dancing and good cheer in the cellars.Anthony (well known man about town )put it on.He had a band “Automation” who I saw play at Rafters I think,...song that went “check it out..”,all about shopping at Tesco’s;why can’t there be more songs like that.?Anyway they were brill;should have been huge etc......They also played at Legends one time.Last I heard he and Mark Hoyle, late of Dub Sex,vibrant Thigh.etc..(.that man would know untold amounts if he's not already on this site. You want to find out if he'll let you download his memory bank sometime...) were doing stuff under the name Nine Bar.P.S. sorry about that last sentence;couldn't make it work.”The Lion and The Christian” used to have a recording studio in Robert Adam Crescent and later on there was “Jerusalem” near the Ritz.Sean came from My American Wife;Dready was the drummer ;Andy had been in a Wythenshawe band called “Naked in Winter” (name says it all) and later, with Vic ,had Sen’or Mantec who I think were signed to Rob’s Records.(Small aside,Vic’s brother Dura used to do cabaret. If he’s still doing the rounds go and see him;best turn you’ll ever see).flippin’ eck I feel like I’m writing a bands biography here!Aaaaanyway, what else.....The band ran a coach down to London to play at the African Centre in Covent Garden I think it was, and it might have had something to do with Jazzy B,later of Soul 2 Soul.Eric Random and his Bedlamites were in full support (did they release an album once where the sleeve was made of sandpaper?that was never going to catch on); and all in all big fun was had by all.Andy now records under the name Atone(one time with Scouser Ali Omar...sadly missed) and lives near me.He’s pretty much the only Manc I know and, as he has trouble even remembering last week,(my short term memory goes back,ooh...at least two weeks) ,I don’t think there’d be much point me tapping his brain.I hope I haven’t given anybody’s trade secrets away....that wasn’t so hard,Phew!.....
