Another flippin' ace gig.I know I've definitely got some of this on tape.I think his voice has gone a bit these days but back then could the man sing! There was a lot of wall-smashing going on,like cans,bottles... banging against walls, tables, inanimate objects to make a wildly appreciative sound;he really knew how to work a crowd.Mr. Murray from the record shop was always at these things.Anyway just thinking back on it still gives me a warm, squidgy feeling."Prison Oval Rock " was a stand-out on the night, probably because it had a singalongachorus to it.I mentioned somewhere earlier how a lot of reggae bands would give Manchester a miss although play Leeds,Huddersfield and the like and, having seen bands on occasion at these wrong side of The Pennines places, I got the impression that the reception to them was usually warmer in these small backwater towns than in M/c...maybe they were just grateful.(20 years out of the U.K. and I still can't help having a dig....).This night stands out in my head when all that seemed to change...
This flyer, from what it says on the bottom, seems to be from Coventry;not sure why.I used to go to Brum quite a lot or down dat London so I've found I've got quite a lot of flyers from there too;(good reggae shop next to Birmingham coach station.)They're not really relevant to this site though.Maybe I was a poor excuse for a kleptomaniac;some quality control seems to have gone on though.(I've just thrown out all The Nolan's stuff. The Dooleys however.....some of Manchester's finest etc. etc.).
On ya Baz!
