The Hacienda
1992

2 of 4

Actually this isn't a piece of Hacienda memorabilia exactly, although there were plenty of these kicking around...

1992 and Ecstasy is now taken by huge amounts of people every weekend. There had been a couple of E related deaths and thousands of people who maybe wouldn't normally have taken a mind-bending drug were popping them every Friday and Saturday night... Manchester's drugs advice centre Lifeline produced a collection of leaflets to promote awareness about the dangers (and pleasures!) of taking drugs.

Very much aimed at the weekend club user these gave information on dehydration, paranoia, safe sex, the law and bad trips amongst others...

Using a cartoon character 'Peanut Pete' Lifeline hoped that people would read these leaflets and learn...

In this issue there are lines such as

'We use drugs like E and whizz because we like it, not because we have to like a bunch of smackheads' and 'look after yourself, eat, sleep. You've got to be fit to rave.'
