Art meets science - the technical drawings that accompanied the 1976 UK patent (number 1426203) for Godley and Creme's Gizmo invention. The device permanently bowed the individual guitar strings through a series of powered small wheels, which then left the guitarist’s hands free to play the instrument whilst the device sustained the notes. For Godley and Creme, the assistance of academics at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology, plus the granting of the US and UK patents, added weight and legitimacy to the whole project
