“If this is the case, it marks the sad passing of another fragment of the old, pre-makeover Manchester. I remember finding some gems amongst the rather soggy singles in the drizzle at Church Street Records. Part of my Saturday trip to town in the 1980's, buying singles and fanzines.”

“I have a great pic from the Seventies when the record stall was on the corner of Shudehill and High Street near Central Radio before they moved it here.
The demise of the entire market district of Manchester is a shame.”

“Also spent many a Saturday afternoon, if there wasnt any football, sifting through the vinyl during the 80s, that was after searching through the old music papers at Englands Glory next to the Gallery.Usually had pint in the Sportsmans bar and a curry at the Cafe Lahore next to the multi storey car park and the kids today think we've never lived !!”

“Yes, walked past today and there's virtually nothing left!
It feels like half my record collection came from there, not to mention loads of books from the book stall at the opposite end.
Everything was there after Christmas, so it must've been a very quick decision.
Shame!
And I remember the Shude Hill stalls...”

“Apparently the new market stalls will be open in the Spring. We will have to see if the old traders come back to their pitches.”

“what a shame! i have to admit to never buying anything from there that i can remember - still it looked great. i love the little 'shack' shops - a bit like the Record Shack in Whalley Range and One Drop Records in Moss Side.”
