“Just wondering , is this definitely 1962? George only started playing for the main United team in 1963, is it more like '72?”

“I think this invitation was a bit later than 1962 - the reason I know is because the typefaces were popular in the late 60s/early 70s. The flyers, tickets and invites were made with Letraset [instant transfer dry lettering] ... I worked for Comprehensive Art Services around 1971/2, located at the top floor of Courtlets House in King Street West. The basement of that building was George Best's other club .. [can't remember the name though] ... Later it was Apartment 38 and Berlin. CAS was owned by John Hebb and Stuart Beckett and we produced the artwork for Slack's and other clubs around town. This was one of their pieces of work, you can't miss the style ... they also producred work for Oscars and The Dorian Grey Suite ... ! - I'll dig them all out and post them. - Glenn ;o)”

“Who was your late mum?
I was the manager at Slack's for about a year, before that at Rubens on Lloyd st also owned by Colin Burn who was Georgies partner in Slack's. I still have my VIP membership card somwhere?
the date we opened was November 1973. Either then or in the new year. Before this the club had been a strip joint called the Cossack Club owned by "Russian" Dave. Rubens club owned by Colin a gau called David Johnson and his friend Maurice was the old "Oasis club" of which the famous brothers got their name.
Anyway it went t-its up for me when George went off with my girl-friend. But I did employ many of the girls who used to work there, until about the Christmas 1974, so i might remember the young lady who was your mum?”

“@washington - Hope you’re well… David Johnson was my dad, who passed away a week before my first birthday. If you have any stories to share, I’d love to hear from you!”
