“Looking through the stuff you've posted i think our paths must have crossed a few times. I wish i had kept hold of my old ticket stubs etc. When i left home and got married i left a tin full of badges/tickets and a leather autographed by the Clash and the Damned in the loft and you guest it my parents chucked it out. Getting back to the Ashton Metro it was a strange place to see gigs but for a short time it played host to some good bands. I used to see the Damned regulary until they went a bit gothic when the cpt left. I like to go and see them play now to show my kids what they have missed/bollocks i'm having a mid life crisis.”

“Same age, lived in Wilmslow at the time but had mates who lived in Levenshulme and Hulme so if we didnt make it home after a gig we had somewhere to crash. Most of my mates went to college but i had a job straight from school so i was the only one getting up for work at 7 am after getting in at 3.Also managed to hang on to my vinyl as well as old music papers, wish i could find that bastard tin!!”

“A few bands played the Metro of all paces, I remember Xmal Deutschland to. Funny really cos Ashton was about as inhospitable as it got if you didn't look how you were 'supposed to' hence The Birch becoming a bit of an oasis.”

“I was there as fresh faced just 15 year old school (45 now) kid. I also lived in Wilmslow at the time and my mates dad drove us up there with side eyes at all the mad haircuts passing by on buses/walking down the street. I remember the first support act came on and most people were sat down so not having been to many gigs at that stage (mostly the Apollo where you had a seat) we stood near the front. The second support band didn't come on and after what seemed like an age during which the crowd got more and more worked up, the Damned came on we all realised that 15 year old lads from Wilmslow shouldn't stand at the front! I was used as a support for some frenzied pogoing and after 30 seconds of what felt like a near death experience I managed to escape to the side where we regrouped and watched the rest of the gig...all in all a top night out and more than a bit of an eye opener. It was the only punk gig I ever went to.”
