Flyer
Inspiral Carpets, Atoll K, Dead Heroes
Old Grey Horse, Didsbury
24th May 1986

Flyer created by Graham Lambert of the Inspiral Carpets for a gig he organised, this was the pre-Clint Boon Inspirals, though I think Clint was involved in managing them. Graham had booked the gig and printed up the flyers before he asked the other bands to play, he always was an enterprising lad.

“Clint had just started to manage the Carpets at this stage but was yet to play with them . Steve Holt was still singing [pre Tom Hingley] and Martin Swinburne [ex Hungry Socks] was on the drums with the carpets [pre Gilly] and also the singer with punk band The Dead Heroes.”

“Oi Minster no! It was always me on bass for Atoll K, Mani was in the band for a bit but he was on rhythym Guitar. When we played the other grey horse in Oldham, now the castle, I remember he snapped a string during the first tune, went out and borrowed another guitar and returned just in time for the last tune”

“Yes, thanks for confirming that this was one of Mani's gigs with us, I couldn't quite remember. Do you remember when the Stone Roses were "lost" and we found them in Julies Pantry at Membury Services, on their way back to Rockfield from watching Aerosmith at Wembley? "Bobby Peru" might be able to help on the DH line up”

“This flyer is an interesting bit of music history as for anyone that was around at the time will remember that this Gig did take place but not as the flyer describes. The reality was that Clint Boon made up this flyer before even approaching the other bands to do a Gig. Atoll K never did and would never support the inspiral's and Clint knew this. Clint incensed Atoll K at the time by approaching them with this arrogant flyer in the Castle pub in Oldham. The Gig did go ahead with Atoll K rightfully as headline band. The Dead Heroes were the only band shown in correct billing position on the flyer. The Inspiral's Carpets always lived in Atoll K's shadow while Atoll K held the local limelight and did not get any exposure until one of the times that Atoll K decided to take a break & time off the circuit allowing the Inspiral's to shine through. This was in my opinion and experience a typical example of Clint's way of approaching and dealing with band business. Poor ethics.”
