Beach Club flyer from May 1980 - U2?

This lists June 4 as Blurt. I think this was the night when I turned up and a notice on the door said something along the lines of...there has been an argument about who is headlining, U2 will be headlining Blurt have gone home...

www.u2tours.com has it as June 04, weird that they apparently played MCR Poly only a few days earlier too.”

“Thanks for that. Just checked that site. U2 played at the Poly. First on, then Pink Military, then Wah Heat! who met with the abuse, plastic "glasses" etc often given to Liverpool bands. U2 went down really well and Bono said it was their first tour and would be looking for somewhere else in Manchester to play. They must have found the Beach Club! I thought they were great then.”

“I was at this gig and remember the poster of their first album cover as a backdrop and being crammed into this small "living room" type of setting. I awlays thought they'd appeared under another name though but maybe my memory is just blurred.”

“Hey amberlight it is funny you mention the reception given to Liverpool bands
I saw Wah Heat or The Mighty Wah or whatever Pete Wileys mob were called at the time. I think it was a Wednesday in about 1984 at the Hacienda.
They copped a ton of anti Liverpool abuse, the band had a black guy toasting who couldn't take it anymore and totally lost it wading into the crowd to get at his tormentors. I seem to remember the guys dishing out the abuse were familiar faces from the Kippax. I think the gig was actually called off in the end. but maybe my mind is playing tricks again, does anyone else remember it”

“Yeah, I was there. The gig was pretty much finished and the backing singer lost his rag and threw the drum kit into the audience. They left the stage and didn't come back, so no encore due to the kit being messed up.”
