Artefact

Advert
SFW, Tractor
Champness Hall
26th March 1977

not sure of date of publication but we ran monthly Tractor Music adverts in RAP Rochdale's (underground )Alternative Paper and in 76 and 77 Tractor did quite a few gigs with SFW supporting or actually more equal billing- did electric circus with SFW too
this has to be between late summer 1976 when we opened Tractor Music on the landing Oldham Road Rochdale and winter 1977 when we moved Tractor Music and Cargo Studios into the building on Kenion St. so it must be March 1977

Champness Hall was a great hall but you weren't allowed a bar as the Methodists owned it.

“It was an odd venue, I remember seeing Johnny and the Hurricanes, Screamin' Lord Sutch and Del Shannon play a gig there in the late 70's/ early 80's”

“The Sex Pistols were going to play here in Dec 77. Ads were put in the press and tickets sold until the methodist trustees got wind of it and blew a fuse. After a few weeks of arguing the gig was cancelled but Mclaren let them keep the £1,200 deposit.”
