Artefact

Backstage Pass
Fireplace
Factory Club (see also Russell Club)
1979

Pass to all concerts at the Factory, signed by Alan Wise. He was (is) a curious but likeable figure, who seems to have been written out of all the recent films and histories of the period, though at the time he loomed larger for me than all the others. Maybe this was because, as well as managing the Factory (club) he was also our manager (for a while at least) cos I seem to remember he organised our appearance on What's On and then bought us cheese sarnies and a few pints near the Granada studios when the recording was done.

“You need to check out Nico:Icon - Stella Grundy's stage potrayal of Nico - the Manchester years. The Alan Wise character has a prominent role, I recall. www.nicoiconplay.com/about.htm

“Note: this pass is made out to Simon Grant, who was Fireplace's singer. Simon seemed to know everyone in the Manchester music scene at this time, particularly Alan Wise, Rob Gretton and Dick Witts. Unfortunately, Simon died in March of 2007 from cancer. RIP.”
