Born Idle
The Boardwalk
27th October 1994

photographs showing manchester punk band "born idle" playing support to the damned at the boardwalk....the ticket in the middle does'nt have our name on it because we only got offerd the gig 2 days before the event after being recomended by the roadhouse.

we all had tickets for this gig because we were fans anyway...on the night it saw the entire band selling their tickets outside at face value or below..much to the delight of punters.

apart from the evergreens of sam bass, al guitar and foz vox we have second drummer al d on the kit.

“I wouldn't mind seeing them Roadhouse snaps, Foz..........I think we did 2 gigs there - a Johnny Thunders tribute night, and the Joey Ramone memorial gig, if I remember right.”

“i think the pics are from the first time we played there with you and may have been a monday ??

“They were both in 2001.......within a month or so of each other......April 2001 was the 10th anniversary of Thunders' death, then Ramone popped his clogs a couple of weeks later. We should've gotten a sponsorship with an undertakers!

I have a memory like an Elephant ;-)”

“Darran...the Joey Ramone gig was at the Iron Door club in Birkenhead. Members of MDM, Instant Agony & Guitar Gangsters formed a very (1 gig) temporary Ramones tribute band for the day. I know we played, & so did 3CR but I'm buggered if I remember any other bands.
Memory of a tiny elephant?”

“Nah, Al, the Birkenhead one was the Dee Dee Ramone tribute gig (June 2002)......'Dry Wretch' were on the bill that day, I remember cos they were a top band......REAL punk, not a studded leather in sight! The singer spoke in an Australian accent (but turned out to be English!?), they spent most of their set ripping the piss out of the few macho, homophobic numpties at the front of the crowd who were giving him stick for being a little bit on the camp side of things. He kept shoving his finger up his bum, and then went into the crowd to 'skiff' the chief dickhead giving him stick - right up his nose......soon shut the clown up!
I remember him telling us we sounded like The Stooges - "That's alright, then. You can come again, mate!" I told him......talk about compliments!”
