Happy Mondays, New Order
University of Salford (Royal College of Advanced Technology)
17th April 1985

New Order on home turf, the only time they played in Salford(?) Also the first time I had heard and seen the Happy Mondays since they hadn't released anything at that point.

An interesting gig for the debut of 'As It Is When It Was' and the only performance of 'The Kiss Of Death' (a reworking of 'The Perfect Kiss').

The band also ended with a prolonged version of 'Sister Ray'.

The full setlist was:

01. Subculture
02. Love Vigilantes
03. The Village
04. Your Silent Face
05. As It Is When It Was
06. This Time Of Night
07. Temptation
08. Age Of Consent
09. The Perfect Kiss
10. In A Lonely Place
11. 586
12. Sister Ray

“I remember this night well. The Mondays provided a very early sighting of the flared trouser. On Sister Ray, Barney sang " When you come from Salford, don't you know you've got no future. It's just like Sister Ray said..."”
“I went to this Happy Mondays supported them think it was their 2nd ever gig the same night united played liverpool in the f.a cup semi-final at maine road Bernard told every-one the result (utd won) and the crowd went wild well it was Salford.”
