Went to this night a few times, but don't remember a great deal about it. (probably due to the half price drinks before 11 pm.)

“Now 42nd St, I went to this place once when it was The Zoo in about 1982. All posey 80's style chrome and mirrors. I seem to remember a glass bridge or am I making that up?, snooty waitress only service and the outrageous price of 50p per half, no pints, in a poncey glass.

The giant stuffed polarbear in the hallway later turned up at Sacha's hotel I think.”

“This was a great night; it reflected the diverse and eclectic music scene in the city at the time. It attracted people from different scenes and the music was always on the pulse. To my ears it was like a head's jukebox, Dave Booth was the most popular DJ and soon outgrew the place, he was spinning funk and soul, Madchester tunes, early Grunge, classic Psych, hip hop and some early house...The Playpen attracted a crowd of Punks, Rockers, Goths, Hippies, Bikers, Ravers, and was a very cool place, never any trouble there, ever!”

“This flyer was not from 1983 though, more like 1987. There were 2 other DJs who set the night up too but I don't remember the names. It was the coolest night in Manchester.”

“The Zoo was my favourite club for a brief period (say 82-3). It was upstairs just off Deansgate with lots of chrome and a stuffed polar bear. I don't remember any gigs there, however.”
