Ticket
The Apollo
5th October 1981

Came back from some travels, knowing that a lot of friends were going to see The Clash that night so I went along to the box office, which at the time was to the left of the Apollo.
Arrived just after a couple of Standing tickets had been returned for right down the front! Very impressive.
Collectively we must've broken every Health & Safety rule in the book by collecting tickets from people in the Standing area and meeting friends in the bar to bring them back down the front.
A boisterous crush and I remember being a bit worried for the girls who were with us.
But we lived to gig another day!
Turned out that Theatre of Hate were support but nobody seemed to know - I remember loads of us rushing from the bar as word got round the venue that they were on.
The 'Standing' note was written on at the box office, by the way - I suppose The Clash persuaded the management to take some seats out quite late on, after tickets were printed.

“Cool! This was The Bankrobber tour I think. I turned up on the night aiming to bung a bouncer £2 to get in, as could be done at the time, and was also suprised to find tickets available on the night.

Mick Jones produced ToH first album I seem to recall - Billy Duffy from Wythenshawe, later of The Cult.

I've got a load of Apollo tickets somewhere, now where did I put the buggers...”

“A group of us went to this gig and went inthrough the fire exit after to chat to the band. Joe and Mick autographed the inside of my leather, which im ashamed to say i sold to a skin called Dave who we used to bump into at the Banshee and the Ritz most weeks, for about the price of a few drinks.”

“didnt see the Clash live again until mk 2 came along after Mick had left, i think it was 85. They played some of their new songs that night from what was to be Cut the Crap. Mixed in with their old classics they didnt sound too bad, got a bit of a shock when i bought the album.”
