“Great to see this on here, Flannel. I was 13 in 1978 and a massive Skids fan and I've prattled on about them on here before now. First band that I was hugely into, y'know?
I saw them and met them a couple of times at the Apollo on dates after this. My first gig in fact. Like many of the punk/ new wave bands they were catapulted straight from these small gigs to the Apollo, often resorting to playing their hits more than once. Exciting times though.
Stuart Adamson was born in Stretford - he told me once. Wish I could find my old-style Virgin 7 inch orange bag which he signed and altered to read Stuart Adamson is a....
“I was at that gig, I used to go to the Russell Club a lot back then, I seem to recall seeing The Damned there about 3 or 4 times, I stupidly got down the front at 1 Damned gig & not only got covered in gob but got crushed 1/2 to death, this big lad saved me & took me outside to get some air, when I recovered enough to thank him, I looked up to see who it was, it was only the bloke off the Jilted John record, 'Gordon the moron'. I also remember once one of the blokes on the door asking me how old I was, I splutterd out that I was 18, he said I wasn't, then he said I was 21, I just nodded & went in. I was 16.”
