this is a contender for the soundtrack of any Alan Wise film - a Mark E Smith remake of Tommy Blake's 1959 hit, inspired by Summertime Blues.
can't say for sure that Mark was inspired by Alan Wise but the sentiment fits in with Stella Grundy's summary of his appeal when he emerged as a street general in the 70s - he might not have been rich, but he could raise the cash for a van and a rehearsal room when everybody else was broke
