I live (and have lived) in Manchester since 1989. I was very good friends with a fly poster guy in 1989/1990, we used to do hot knives together (back in the day!) Sadly, i was working in a bar in Manchester, the day of the gig and actually, if i’m being honest, it wasn’t really seen as an ‘iconic gig’, so although many will say they went, they are most probably lying. I was given this orginal fly poster. I put it in a cheap Ikea frame and it has never ever been taken out. It has followed me to every address I have ever lived in Manchester - Rusholme, Moss side, Abbey Hey, Fallowfield, Didsbury, Withington, Chorlton, Burnage, Northenden. It has always been in a room with no direct sunlight. A toilet, a landing, over a dining table and currently on my stair case. A treasured possession, however, maybe after 33 years it’s time to pass it on to someone else!
Sometimes you don’t realise the impact of an item or occasion. I used to frequent the Hacienda and it was just a great dance with an expensive bar. I’ve had much better night outs in blues in Hulme or the Ardri. I’ve absolutely loved that i was part of a phenomenal time in Manchester. I’ve known DJ’s, very very famous bands and have hung around with lots of ‘cool’ peps.. Life goes so bloody quickly and you look back with the most unbelievable memories. Anyhoo.. that’s all i have to say for the time being! Kiki x
