Advert for The Smiths first gig outside Manchester at London's Rock Garden on 23rd March 1983.
The Smiths were described on advertisements as a “Mancunian 5-piece whose sound, though difficult to pigeon hole, leans towards pop and the dance floor”. I’m not convinced that would have piqued my interest if I’d seen the advert. According to Johnny Marr it was ‘very sparsely attended’.
