There are "fears of 'undue emphasis' on the opera policies" of the forthcoming Royal Northern College of Music, "to the detriment of other sections of study." Frederick Cox (soon to be head of the new college's opera department) claims it's necessary as training opera singers is a mess all over the world, and Gerald McDonald of the BBC claims a lack of well taught string players was equally worrisome and should be similarly resourced.
