Letter
Ida Carroll, Geoffrey Griffiths
1939

Griff thanks Ida for her surprise letter and ticket.
He won't admit why he didn't sleep well on Saturday night but reckons that if she had a bad night too it was from "no doubt thinking over-much about the concert."
He tells her that "Long goodnights are very nice indeed, though Air Wardens (they shall be nameless), L[and] D[efence] V[olunteers], motor cars, bicycles, dogs, waifs and strays, policemen, bakers and ordinary passers-by make concentration very difficult indeed; very wearing to the nerves!"
She will of course be exempt from this "rude criticism" when she qualified as an Air Raid Precaution Warden.
