A 20/20 Legacy: the centenary of the Northern School of Music

Artefact

Letter
Ida Carroll, Geoffrey Griffiths, Hilda Collens, Gertrude Riall
Northern School Of Music (NSM)
1951

Griff hopes that Ida enjoys her time visiting Queenswood school and is "terribly sorry for my recent mood but I have been feeling terribly tired and the soreness of the right eye hasn't helped."
He assures her that he is "happy at the School and I know that I am at last working for fair, honest people. I am sure you aren't worried about the future of the School. My own thoughts are that honesty and virtue will triumph in the end."
He reckons Hilda Collens, the school's founder and principal, has focussed too much on "true teaching" and maybe hasn't kept her eye on updates from the Ministry of Education.
He's a lot of cricket watching planned and a previous pupil of Gertrude Riall (NSM choir mistress) is opening bat for Middleton.
He's looking forward to walking with Ida in the Cotswolds.
