Griff is going to the cricket, he tells Ida, and has had a lush lunch. He's been gardening and gossiping with neighbours, "the prickly bush has been partly removed and so have bits of my hands."
The festivals up and down the country will keep friends busy.
Hilda Collens is attending the funeral of Mrs Moon (likely Mildred Esplin).
