Video
New Order, 52nd Street
25th May 1982

Here are some screenshots taken from a video of New Order's gig in Kilburn in 1982. The filming was done using a single camera apparently behind glass in a bar up to the right of the stage, the sound is terrible and the band is drowned out by the occasional sound of the till.

The screenshots show the final song that night where the support, 52nd Street, joined New Order for an untitled jam session.

I have no idea who did the filming, if you do know then post below or email us.

“The following info came from Dec Hickey who filmed this video:

"I can enlighten you with the info that I filmed the video you've uploaded those stills from.

Some background. Between Jan '81 and mid '84 I saw every New Order British gig except for one and promoted them twice and in doing so got to know the band and Rob very well during those years and beyond.

As video cameras were becoming accessible to the layman in the early 80s I took the leap and asked Rob if it would be OK to film the band. He was fine with it and the deal was that a copy would go to them and I'm fairly sure I'd have guaranteed I wouldn't be on Camden Market the following Sunday knocking out copies!

I don't know whether the copy you have is the actual one I did for the band (always given to Steve, if I remember rightly) or, indeed, if it's a next-generation copy done from 'Steve's' but as you've gathered without too much analysis, the sound is shite! Those cameras (hired from my local MultiBroadcast video rental outlet!) were passable on visuals but the inbuilt mic was incapable of handling a live gig sound but I couldn't be arsed to worry about using an external mic.

All with Rob's OK, I actually filmed three other NO gigs - Norwich Pennies: 24.5.82, Brixton Ace: 11.3.83 and Kingston Tolworth Recreation Centre: 12.3.83, along with having the Leicester Palais: 24.5.84 gig - one I co-promoted - filmed by friends of mine. The National Ballroom was more than packed. At least with the previous night in Norwich I'd had the luxury of being perched, tripod and all, in what stood for a/the DJ booth, to the side, above the floor and free from any potential 'buffeting.' For the Brixton gig the next March I was in an even more advantageous 'spot', being set up next to Ozzy's desk."
