“Anyone remember Deville's? It was a small downstairs club just off Albert Sq. Am I right in remembering it was linked to the cowboy theme pub next door - Lazy Lil's, which had one of those (vomit inducing!) bucking bronco fairground things in it. The place kicked out the punters at 11, then re-opened as 2 seperate clubs. Deville's was very gothy with local lass Joanne Whalley (Kilmer) behind the bar.”

“Went to the grand opening, a certain Quinten Crisp was the 'act', My then girlfriend (not the above mention Joanne) worked behind the bar, cheap Harvey Wallbangers all night, The club hoped to attract an arty crowd, my fellow amigos cercanos from Pips (Roxy) and The Ranch oft drifted in and out.”

“That's interesting - what year would that be? Quentin Crisp actually died here in Manchester in 1999 aged 90, whilst over here for another appearance. Chloe Poems (a listed artist here) got to perform his stunning poem The Effiminate at a local memorial service.”

“I remember devilles from around 1990 -- by which time it was at the heart of the dance music scene. Me and my mates went there week in and week out for about two years on Saturdays. I remember it being all about the music -- tracks blurring into each other in an endless stream of new stuff, all of it super-cool; a heaving mass of dancing kids in a couple of small rooms, all of us drenched from the effort and the heat; and not much copping off with people (unlike just about everywhere else) because the music was more important -- despite teenage hormones. It was a great place and a great time.”
