“1979 actually - that's when Oct. 3rd was on a Wednesday.”

“I believe that Wednesdays were the main live music night. and it was not a weekly regular event.
Tuesday were southern boogie music nights and Thursday was modern heavy metal [ hair and spangle bands]
Monday's were pure classic rock, and some nights we had film/concert shows shown on the " stage " back wall.
only punk which rocked with a good bass was played ;-) most punk music was played elsewhere.

weekend was everything. except pop !! and we never had afternoon lock-ins.”

“Sorry to correct you, but The Pheonix started as a 7 nights a week rock venue in 1974 with myself (Steve Toon), Simon Barton Barton Bates and Dane (Danny) Kelly djing. I used to do Friday and Sunday nights, Dane did Saturdays and Simon Thursdays, with Simon and I doing the rest of the week between us. Big Steve was a regular customer and eventually took over from me in 1977 when I left to dj at The Poly. Cheers”
