Someone was asking about the VCS3 synthesiser.
I found this pic of Landmark's Synthi version having an unusual effect on me. Note also Landmark's soprano sax in case on floor and Howard Walmsley's Wem amplifier, what a variety of gear we had!

“He sold the Synthi AKS for about 300 quid when the wolf was at the door, they are going for about 3 grand now. I think he bought it for the same price as a new VW Beetle in the 70's. There is a photo of him walking out of the Turnkey music shop in London with it tucked under his arm.....You couldn't do that with a Beetle or Woooooeeeeeoooooahhhh zut!! either for that matter...”

“A what zut? Is there a drink involved? Should we be told? I went to London with him at a later date to get the touch sensitive keyboard for the aforementioned device and, methinks, spend a couple of days with Capalula, who was at University there, though I may be mixing dates up!
I do have a photo of Landmark in Kensington Gardens with the (boxed) keyboard....I'll go and try to find it.”

“I can remember having a leaflet for the VCS3 (I wonder if I've still got it?) from about 1973, with the (new) price £375 written on it.”

“Lovely Photo. goes well with the curtains too.! sorry to be a synth nerd but I think its a Synthi A. The VCS 3 it more or less the same synth but in a wooden stand up case and proper keyboard with joystick on the keyboard bit..(Theres actualy one in Roadhouse at the moment
that belonged to Bonehead of Oasis)I think they want a lot of money for it.. I love the recording of BTs 1st gig at the Russel club where the synth is twice as loud as the band. Have you got the tape of Capalula reciting over this synth doing ."Push red Chord the sun sealed into bad food camp coffee surprise call the licking dog star up from the oceans floor in rings of sugaered coffee?" I think its recorded on a reel to reel as it has Planxty leaking through ,This eiree combination of pulsing synth and folk music always made it quite special. Glad to see he had curly leads ,deregur in the 70s.”

“I have a leaflet advertising the Synthi that found its way in amongst the tape boxes. Its got two naked women on it covered in soap suds. They look like Barbara Windsor circa Carry on Camping and will be drawing their pensions now I'll wager. I would upload it but then we would be getting into the realms of techno-weevildom....Speaking of Bonehead, he plastered my dads bathroom ceiling just prior to Oasis making it big (whilst they were still The Rain and playing places like Times Square in Didsbury) They hooked up with the Gallaghers and the rest is history..Blah Blah”

“more techno weevildom..origenal price for a synthi A was only
£198 (im shure it was in Guinees?) ..or £420 with the keyboard when it was sold as the Synthi AKS ,its a lot more for the keyboard but it also has the sequencer in that bit .
nerd police will be after us!”

“I must have my facts a bit wrong surely a VW Beetle must have cost more than that. I know for sure that the Fairlight Synth cost as much as a Semi Detatched house when it first came out and only the likes of Trevor Horn could afford one. I think the sampling facility was the only bit anyone wanted and Casios SK1 was as good when that eventually emerged (I had one it was great). Theres a knock at the door....".Take me away I'll come quietly officer".....”

“Closing his US Navy issue Zippo with an impassive shrug, DI Sinuf Mood of Grammar and Spelling Special Division took a long drag of his cheroot and gazed wearily across the street as the goons from Nerd Division dragged the protesting Sbilts from the bosom of his family towards the hypodermic wielding men in white coats stood beside the ambulance.
"That'll teach me to leave the pub earlier" he mused. "Maybe my boys have got to Massey's house in time....."”
