Autograph
University of Salford (Royal College of Advanced Technology)
18th November 1976

Lemmy's autograph on the back of an old pound note(I had a pen but no paper!).
Motorhead,Salford University 1976.
It reads "Aaaargh,Lemmy"and has the star sign for Capricorn.
This was'nt exactly a gig,the band turned up,their equipment did'nt and it turned into one of the best booze-ups I've ever been to!!.To compensate the fans the band gave away all of their merchandise,I got a t-shirt but when my mate went to get his there were non left so Lemmy gave him his pen knife and corkscrew. No one got their ticket money back though because we'd all met the band!!.

“wow that's great! i guess a pound was worth about £5-7 then too?”
“I was at Salford University in 1976.

In those days, a pound could buy you a pie'n'pea supper, a new bespoke suit and a second-hand Mellotron from Barclay James Harvest, and you'd still have change for the tram ride home.”
“There was someone famous but tight (so famous that I can't remember who) who paid even the smallest bill by cheque as the shop/bar person never ever cashed them - preferring to keep the autograph instead!”
“Very interesting - I was talking to a friend on Sunday about this. He was in a motorway services and saw Princess Anne (honestly!) buying something with a cheque - and we had exactly the same thought as you, it'll never get cashed.”
“it's da skills that pay da bills. or something.”
“I believe this was actually in 1977 - a Motorhead gig at Salford University was advertised for 18th November 1977. I have found no record of the band scheduled to play there in 1976.”

“You are correct Salfordarchives . Myself and three mates came all the way from Barrow in Furness for this and were well cheesed off . There was a notice on the doors saying the gig was cancelled but we didn't know the band had turned up. If we knew we would've stayed for the party Arnie described . As it was we drove to Lancaster University and wandered into the end of The Boomtown Rats set . To round off a disappointing evening our driver contrived to drive over a roundabout on the way home and write the car off . Happy days !”
