Trefor Davies recalls the atmosphere at the Northern School of Music as the Royal Northern College of Music was being designed in the 1960s.
Trefor: Well I had finished at the Northern in ’69, yeah, so I only went back for lessons with Ellis and people like that and I understood that they were having quite a few difficulties, one way or another, and I know that Ida Carroll was in meetings galore, so it must have been quite turbulent at times. I mean, I didn’t get to experience it because, as I say, I wasn’t there then but I do know that there was quite a lot of discussion as to how it was going to take place and who was to be the Principal and all that sort of thing, yeah.
