The International Set were a local Manchester New Wave Band
Playing on the Manchester City Centre New Wave circuit in 1980/81.

Pete Taylor (ex The Curbs) - Vocals & Bass Guitar (Partington)
Pete was a good friend of mine, we were actually next door neighbours.
I was a Curbs fan in 1978/79, and an International Set fan in 1980.
Pete made me a personally messaged and signed band badge to wear.
A kind of thank you for my dedication following the band around town.

'To our leading fan. From their leading man' P Taylor (Vocals) 30/10/80

The International Set played mostly in city centre bars, late 1980.
Pete wrote to the Manchester Evening News to advertise their gigs.
These included venues like The Portland Bars and Cyprus Tavern.
I remember a gig at the famous Yew Tree pub in Wythenshawe too.

14.04.2020 : Dale Jowett saw the band play at New Mills Town Hall.
Dale says, 'Had a chance to catch up with a couple of them last year
at a Punk event in Whaley Bridge. Nice Chaps!'

The International Set had a fantastic song I liked called Swedish Teenager.
I believe it was big in Sweden, I know it was around the Partington area.

The International Set visited The Portland Bars on 24th November 1980.
Drinking early, up close, to watch and dance to the brilliant Fast Cars.
A locally famous punky powerpop band all the way from sunny Swinton.
Wow! Tameside Girls, The Kids Just Wanna Dance.. We Did! Great fun!
We had a fantastic time, not knowing then, it was Fast Cars last ever gig!

“I recall a Manchester Punk Poet called Alan Jowett twice recited poems from his book Urges at two Curbs gigs. At Kelly's and The Squat in 1978. Any relation of yours Dale? Thanks.”
