The wonderful poster for this year's Suffragette City by Stan Chow.
The featured suffragette is Emmeline Pankhurst, and and the negative split effect draws inspiration from the artist Barbara Kruger.

******************

Saturday March 7th sees the return of Suffragette City – the women-led all-day music event at The Refuge, which raises money for Greater Manchester women’s charities.

At a time when refuges are suffering deep cuts and many women’s groups have to rely on self-organisation to fundraise, coming together to make a difference is more important than ever.

Last year the event raised over £3k and we hope to smash that record and enjoy coming together in the same atmosphere of love, defiance and celebration.

Curated by Rina Ladybeige (The Social Service), Chris Massey (Electriks/Sprechen), Abigail Ward (Manchester Digital Music Archive) and Kath McDermott (BBC 6 Music), the day and night event will feature the usual array of female DJ talent playing cross-genre party music for discerning dancers.

I saw a message from you on MDMA (from long ago) about a band called Industrial Youth whose song "Sponge Bath" was played on a John Peel show in 1984 or 1985. I had a tape of this show but lost it . But I still have the track listing and am trying to piece together the songs on the tape. You seemed to know someone from the band (John Trapasso - see your message below), and I wondered if you couldn't put me in touch with them to try to get a copy of the song. Thank you

John Trapasso says:

I enjoyed your comments about my song, Sponge Bath, which appeared in your string on John Peel and the Buzzcocks. It is good to know that it is still appreciated after all these years. The band had broken up before the 45 was released . For that reason it was never officially released or promoted. That is the major reason why it was so hard to find.

Incidentally Sponge Bath was re-released on a CD back in the 1990’s. It contained a compilation of local bands from th”

“Hi Jim,

I have sent your message to John Trapasso. The email I have for him was last used 10 years ago, so it may not be valid, but fingers crossed.”
