Flyer advertising May 1977's gigs at the Electric Circus, Manchester, including the Buzzcocks on the 29th. The rest of the month saw an interesting mix of the soon-to-be-famous and the always-to-be-obscure: Wayne County, Bethnell, Charlie, The Clash, Cherry Vanilla, Krakatoa, The Jam, The Fabulous Poodles, A.F.T., Ramones, Nutz and Jenny Hans Lions.

“The Clash, The Jam, The Ramones and The Buzzcocks on the same venue in the same month? Not to mention the others!”
“i know... it takes about three months between bands i want to see now. we need a new, decent movement!”
“Not a bad month! It seems that Sunday's were the punk nights? Lots of heavy rock other times. Did they have a seperate promoter/DJ? By December it seems The Ramones were playing the Apollo - see my repro postcard/poster uploaded against the Apollo venue.”
“Cherry Vanilla was, of course, backed by the three members of 'The Police' (then unknown) who later coincidentally had a tie in with Wayne County (Holland I think) If I'm right, I think Cherry Vanilla (still with the Police) also played Rafters, (though it may well have been the Electric Circus I saw her/them, the old memories playing tricks now a days)
I wonder whatever happen to 'The Police' : )”
“May 8th, that was the White Riot tour and the first time I ventured out the the Electric Circus. The Subway Sect, The Slits and the Clash. There was a vinyl bootleg of this as well. The Clash are out of tune for most of it but I didn't care at the time... a life changing gig infact”

“I was at the Wayne County gig, this was prior to him becoming her and performing as Jayne County. The band were musically unremarkable New York Dolls glam rock but I do remember being grossed out by Wayne standing stage front encouraging audience members to spit into his open mouth. The bass player was having a hard time playing a guitar whose neck was liberally decorated with audience phlegm. He played a song called 'If you don't want to fuck me baby, baby fuck off' which summed up his/her attitude very well.”

“Wayne County had to cancel on the 1st May so there was a New Wave Disco that night. Wayne did play on the 13th, instead of Cherry Vanilla. Because it was a Friday (Sunday being the punk night athough it was all the same management/promoter) the serious rock audience gave them a hard time.”
