Artefact
Artwork is probably pushing it a bit but this picture is all about the record sleeve...I have gone on about Mazels before but imagine my delight when I uncovered this while perusing my box of 7" singles.. I think Half a crown was my spends in those days..it almost brings a tear to the eye. I doubt if thats the original record in it but it is an example of the kind of stuff you could get there. It would take years of trawling through Charity shops to come up with something like this now..I used to get the 192 bus from Levenshulme (but it was the 92 then of course) and get off outside Mazels and not even bother to go into the city centre as I had spunked all my cash on ex-Jukebox records or 78rpms then I would scurry home and play them on this PYE record player with a speaker in the top (It was monophonic) my mum bought it for me when I left primary school. I could either go on the school trip to Belgium or have the record player..it was no contest (I think it cost £19 which was an astronomical amount when I was 12) I had to choose a venue to enable me to upload the pic and the Apollo was 2 bus stops before Mazels so it kind of qualifys as a marker for one of Manchesters most amazing record shops feel free to edit this though..........
