Northern Ambition started as an email address, to email the guitarist Boz Boorer (Morrissey/The Polecats), asking about a Manchester show booking. It was booked for January 2002 at Matt and Phreds. Boz did a set of his own stuff, Polecats, covers and a ton of Morrissey songs. The flyer design is in no small way inspired by the 'Vauxhall and I' artwork. Support came from Stephen Fretwell, who released his first album with Northern Ambition later in the year.
