“I remember my mum & dad going to see Del Shannon at the Golden Garter & my dad coming home with a couple of signed albums. Karl Denver also played there on a couple of occaisions. There were a number of these 'Wheel Tappers & Shunters' type venues including the Talk of the North (Eccles), the Poco a Poco (Stockport) & the (recently departed) Willows (Salford). Just as well there were sixteen versions of the Drifters available for hire at any one time during the 1970's.”
“We went to the Golden Garter quite a lot because they put a lot of quality entertainment on. I remember seeing Odyssey there twice. They must have been good! These cabaret clubs were great as you payed for the chair to sit on and wearing 4 inch wedge heeled shoes meant you were definitely going to want to sit down !”
