Poster
Slaughter and the Dogs
Rafters
9th June 1977

A fantastically DIY looking screen-printed poster for Thursday night at Rafters. At this point Rob Gretton, soon to become Joy Division manager, would have been DJing here. Rob would probably have been working with Slaughter and the Dogs in this period as well as launching 'Rainy City Records' and putting out The Panik's 'It Won't Sell' 7".
You can tell by the line-up on this poster how important Rafters was in the gigging circuit of punk bands. Generation X (with Billy Idol), The Pirates and The Heartbreakers were all significant punk bands and Aswad were a force amongst (British) reggae, which was embraced by many punks.
The night was probably promoted by Alan Wise's 'Wise Moves'. Alan would trust Rob's 'golden ears' and let him choose the bands to play at the night.
