Here's the original lacquer that was cut for one side of our first single. Shown is an image with it resting on the large box it came with and that it's screwed into, plus below is a close-up.
Lacquers are the over sized discs that are the original cut of your intended record. The record is manufactured using a process that involves firstly making a negative from the lacquer, from that another positive is made, from this positive the negative stampers are made and from them your record is pressed.
It's quite rare for an artist to bother trying to get their lacquers/stampers back from the pressing plant, it costs money and is a little pointless since you end up with a load of bulky metalwork you can't do a whole lot with. As this was our first single I felt obliged, I haven't bothered to do this with any subsequent pressings I've had done.
