Master Tape
New Order
18th August 1987

Here's one that doesn't seem to be in any discographies.

All we know is that it's been labelled 'Providence', there's no indication of the date. From the songs played it's obviously 1987, also 'True Faith' is introduced as 'our new single', so this places it as one of the US dates played in August or September that year.

They played:

01. Bizarre Love Triangle
02. Love Vigilantes
03. Weirdo
04. True Faith
05. Touched By The Hand Of God
06. Thieves Like Us
07. This Time Of Night
08. Sub Culture
09. Temptation
10. Sunrise
11. The Perfect Kiss

“This is an identical set to the Great Woods Amphitheatre gig at Mansfield, which they played on 18th August 1987. I've had the tape for that gig since September 87. I'll have a listen to the tape to see if the comment about True Faith being the single is on there. I know from the tour plan that Factory provided me with at the time that Providemce, Rhode Island was one of the gigs they had pencilled in as "tentative", with no date provided.”
“The setlist for GWA given on new-order.net (which matches up) wasn't on the original Waterrat listing, so it's one we learned about only relatively recently. Another possibility is that what we thought was from Mansfield was really from this Providence gig...or it could simply be that the archive tape is mislabelled. Given there was three days between this one (18th) and the Maryland date (21st), it's certainly possible there's at least another performance in between.”
“I didn't notice that the Mansfield setlist was the same, no coincidence I'm sure, they never seemed to repeat a setlist back then. Also, we don't seem to have that Mansfield one so can't check that angle up.”
“The exact quote was "this next song's our new single, and I hope you have True Faith in New Order, because that is what it's called"”
“And it sounds a bit cheesy, like Bernard has realised what he is saying and is a bit embarrassed?! That's exactly what is on the Mansfield Great Woods tape, I just checked. The guy I got this from in Sept 87 was very hot on the US tour, got stuff straightaway. I provided a copy of this for a guy from NOOL who was at the gig and confirmed it was the tape from that night - it was the first time he'd seen the band and was delighted to receive the tape - for sure he would have noticed and commented if I'd given him the tape of a completely different show!”
“Interesting it's not featured on WaterRat's listing - it was in the batch of details I provided him with when I first found his site, shortly before he quit updating it.”
“Providence and Mansfield aren't too far from each other so it looks like that one's solved”
