Artefact
Southern Cemetery, Barlow Moor Road, Chorlton-cum-Hardy, Manchester: the grave and headstone of Martin Hannett.
As an original director, partner and producer at Factory Records, Hannett's sparse and infuential sound was utilised on both of the Joy Division studio albums, as well as records by New Order, The Duritti Column, John Cooper Clarke and the Happy Mondays. He died penniless in 1991 and was initially buried in an unmarked grave, but at the instigation of Tony Wilson's first wife Lindsey Reade, this headstone was paid for by Factory Records and the remaining members of Joy Division in December 2008. (Southern Cemetery, Plot FF, grave 713!)
