“I went to the Jesus And Mary Chain gig, one of three I saw there I think. On another occasion they had both The Pastels and Primal Scream supporting (a busy night for Bobby Gillespie).”
“Was this the first JAMC tour? I saw it in Leeds if so - loads of hype following the "riot" at the ICA, rammed venue, kept us waiting for a full hour after the support band (Felt, I think), then stormed an incendiary 20 minute set (leave em wanting more!) ending in a guitar left feeding back, propped against the amp. Bobby Gillespie standing playing the kettle drums like Mo Tucker. Psychocandy remains one of the GREAT albums.”
“Is the full venue gig list in the book? It would be fascinating to get those up for a few venues on the site if possible. There'll be loads of fascinating mixed schedules like this.”
“I couldn't guess it when I posted it up. Found a B.A.D. gig list online which gave me 86 - seems to tally with the jsz posting.
I was at the Blow Monkeys gig. I remember the bass player in a big black hat - we christened him The Lone Groover after the black-hatted cartoon character.”
“the thing is, apart from the earlier blow monkeys comment, BAD played the apollo in either late '85 (i was there), and it was a terrible gig- acknowledged by the band because they then returned and did another gig at the international2, free (or 50p, i can't remember) to those who went to the apollo gig. why if they were playing the apollo/int2 would they play the hac? also surely J&MC were too big for the hac by this time... ?”
“Holy crap! The Mary Chain *and* Pink Industry on the same bill?!? <*faints*> (If you've never heard Pink Industry's 1983 album "Who Told You, You Were Naked?", it's a landmark recording in Electronic Music history.)”
“I went to some of these...Mary Chain w/Pink Industry and I saw the Sandie Shaw gig. Can't remember much about the year but I remember how easy it was to get tickets.
Piccadilly radio ran competitions all the time and noone ever entered them so if you rang up and said you wanted some tickets they would just send them out foc.”
“Tony; the night you were at (and me) was Nov '85; snowed up in the hills that night; it was colder than ever. If you recall, Mr McGee was running around the back of the crowd picking out journo's and fanzine bods he'd met shouting that it was all about to kick off (i.e. build the hype). I got backstage and drunk with Bobby then thrown out by Mr McGee for being a journo. I went to my mates house through the snow (proper snow - 1-4 inches)
I have some pics of the gig. And the May one. The next (Darklands) was at International 2.”
