Joy Division
1983

I bought this in 83 although clearly it must have been recorded pre-1980.

It's a 7" picture disc of an interview with Ian Curtis. The photo on the reverse is of Ian in classic mid-dance.

It's recorded in a pub, you can hear the pool balls, and the sound quality isn't great. He's discussing the Velvets, Iggy etc. I wonder if this is the recording which is woven into Psychic TVs 1990 track I.C. Water?

(Genesis P-Orridge of none-more-strange Psychic Tv was born in Manchester and, it seems Ian was due to work with them before he died. Anyone know more about this?

Their mid-80s Hacienda gig was, er, interesting. A live on-stage phone call - years before Bono did it, and film projections including scenes of genital mutilation - something which Mr P-Orridge did as performance art.

Funnily enough - they were never on Cheggers Plays Pop! )

“The interview with Ian Curtis was recorded at the Castle in Oldham, can't remember the date off the top of my head.

Genesis and Ian were regular correspondents, this much is true, but GP's claim that Ian was quitting the band to work with him may be another of his delusional tales, as may the claim that Ian called him after midnight on May 17th 1980. Guess we will never know for sure.”
