For a very short period after it opened there were some gigs at Upper Space - I think they stopped having them due to noise complaints from the Crown & Anchor next door - and an excellent flyer art exhibition. This was one of the first gigs for Manchester's Hammers (
www.discogs.com/artist/65272-Hammers ) and I think a rather one-off tour for both touring bands, given their geographical make-up. According to an old listing "Upper Space is situated on the 2nd floor of an old textile warehouse in the Northern Quarter of Manchester city centre, our 2000 sq.ft. exhibition contains two exhibition areas. The second half of our warehouse contains a newly opened cafe, bar and event space" - I believe this gig took place in the cafe space on a higher floor, which was one of the best gig spaces I've come across.
