Artefact
I don’t remember much about Plenty but plenty about First Offence.
I really wanted to like them. I liked the fact that their name ideally suited their image and loved its bags of attitude abbreviation – F-Off. Rock and Roll!
I liked the fact that they scared middle class journalists by coming from the “Here Be Dragons” side of town. The lead singer/rapper’s grand entrance from behind a curtain wearing a clergyman’s robes and dog collar was genius theatre - his shaven headed, pit bull, Manc Street Preacher thang was something different at the time. Their sample-heavy beats were pretty cool too.
But then one line of a lyric took the shine off it for me and we ended up in a difference of opinion with the singer at the end. Shame that, and the only downer I ever had in the International 1 - a great place which deserves a much higher place in Manc musical history.
