TJ Davidson's (Rehearsal and Recording Studio)

Tj Davidson's business card. This one is from Mark Standley of V2 who used to practice there alongside many other of the punk bands at that time, most famously Joy Division. Tj's was next to where the Boardwalk used to be on Little Peter Street, very near to where The Hacienda stood. This card was recently pictured in Mojo Magazine's joy Division feature.

There is some great stuff to do with Tj (and JD) in the Rob Gretton archive, hopefully we'll get some more stuff up when we have time, so keep watching!

“I remember Mark Standley when he was in my mates band (Blackjack ?) around 1973-4.They played covers of the chart songs of the time (T.Rex,Slade,Sweet etc) and had a female singer called Gill who was going out with my mate Phil. They rehearsed in Phil's dad's chip shop off Katherine Street in Ashton-Under-Lyne,and I remember them doing an extended version of Gary Glitter's "Rock N' Roll pts 1&2" at the local Baptist church one night.Another member of the band was Baz Stopford who later joined J.S.R.S.R.B.”
“I used to work for Tony in the office as label/sales manager form 1979-1980.I had to work hard as I was on comission only. His father owned Davidsons jewellers on Oldham street....a very nice man.I met many Manchester bands during my time there and was there the day Joy Division recorded their video for "love will tear us apart".Mike o Gorman the irish caretaker lived in the building with Woody the dog, both were named as directors on the letterheads ha ha ha.”
