I had never been to tribute night. In fact, I had never set foot in the Star and Garter. I had moved to Manchester 6 months before, but when I did go to the Morrissey / Smiths night , it felt like I really grasped what the fuss was about regarding the band, the city and the fans. It was a genuine exercise for all to try and emulate sexy despair whilst chanting in a monotone voice. Priceless!
