Very early Men of 992 gig at Stockport's now defunct Manchester Arms...this was a great gig for us as it was the first time Sax player Dave Moss got up to play with us and it was an honour...Dave loved playing with us as we droned on in the same key for ages and we encouraged him to do just as he liked over the top of it.This features the controversial Hammond organ and the "Iron Guitar" a strange beast from the 60's I spent all my Christmas Bonus on one year,it stayed tuned to open E tuning and was wired straight to the jack plug bypassing the volume and tone pots and had keys like an accordion to switch between the 4 pickups which were microphonic in extremis but second to none for uncontrolled feedback which I was a big fan of at the time. The strings were the heaviest gauge imaginable so string bending was out.It had a vibrato which was rusted up so badly it was seized solid...still got it to this day but rarely gets an airing...We sacked Derby soon after this gig because of the weight of the Hammond but I like the sound of it on this rendition of Pablo Picasso by Jonathan Richman.....992 played pretty regularly in the Manchester Arms and the Boars Head around this time and it was a great time in our lives and will be fondly remembered...The way things are in Stockport these days there will be nowhere left to play, the pubs are disappearing.....

“This would be so much better without the keyboard.......Dave Moss is drowned out by it!”
