Joy Division
Band On The Wall
1978

The MDMArchive was invited to help organise Rob Gretton's lock-up which had hardly been touched since his sad and untimely death. In it we found an amazing stash of artefacts relating to Rob's history and invovement in Manchester music, whether it relates to one of his bands, Factory Records or the Hacienda. Rob was obviously very particular and kept notebooks and accounts of pretty much everything, from meetings, gigs and any money coming in or going out.

This is a page from one of the many notebooks that Rob kept. In the notebooks it is possible to trace the history of Joy Division, from the costs and ordering of the very first single right upto the change of the band's name.

This page shows an entry for the Band on the Wall gig of Sept 4th 1978 and also looks like it could be a draft drawing for the poster that was printed for the gig (which is elsewhere on this site).
