Artefact

Poster
Happy Mondays
The Gallery
1984

At the time I was working at 'sportsbox' upstairs at the Oasis indoor market opposite the Arndale on Market Street. Working on Saturday's and a couple of days in the week with a mate of mine called Si D who was a old mate of Shaun Ryder's from when they were little kids. At 'sportsbox' Si and me used to sell rare adidas trainers from Germany, like Dublin, Koln London etc etc and all the lads used to come in and buy them. At the time it was the only place in the country you could get them it would be really busy on match days of course.
Shaun and Paul Ryder would come in together a lot at the time to see Si I think there were still working at the P.O. Gaz Whelan would come in often as well and that's how I got to know them all, its where they got their trainers and cord shoes!
I think it was 1984 although I can't be sure and I'm not sure whether they had signed to Factory or were just about to. Shaun gave Si and me a few poster's to put up in the shop and a couple to keep and that we should get ourselves down to The Gallery. Shaun told us that his cousin's Matt and Pat had designed the poster along with Karen who became Central Station design. Not sure if it was the first poster they did but it was pretty early on and a very simple black and white graphic. Its now framed up on my wall along with my other memorabilia.
I thought I would put up the post as the Mondays are touring again with 'Bummed' this month on its 25th anniversary! Excellent album great days!
