The Hungry Socks were Martin Swinny ( guitar , vocals ) , Clint Boon ( keyboards ) , Chris Goodwin ( drums ) , Andy McVittie ( bass ) and Carl Drinkwater ( sax ) , after the departure of Andy McVittie , Gary " Mani " Mountfield replaced him on bass and Andy Housley joined on guitar . After moving from playing punk / psychedelic / Manchester covers , the band wrote and gigged their own material around the north west of England , live recordings exist but are extremely rare and though not many have surfaced there are rumours that a live E.P or album is set for release in the near future . After eventually going their different ways , Mani joined the Stone Roses and then Primal Scream ( now back with the reformed Roses ) , Clint Boon went on to play keyboards in the Inspiral Carpets and has a successful radio show on XFM , Chris Goodwin formed the High with ex-Stone roses guitarist Andy Couzens then played with Electronic ( Johnny Marr , Bernard Sumner ) and the Buzzcocks ( Steve Diggle ) , Andy Housley joined (ex Smiths guitarist Craig Gannon's band ) the Cradle as vocalist , Martin Swinny joined the Birdroom and Head and now performs solo as Periscope . During the period the band were together several members also undertook a recording project under the name the Mill .
